East Tirol – Alpine trekking in the remote Virgen Valley

Situated south of the Virgen Valley, the quiet and green Lasörling Group is a balcony with stunnings views of the Venediger Group.

Hike along the Lasörling High Trail to the Umbal Falls near Ströden and experience the idyllic landscape of lakes, magnificent flower meadows and - of course - fantastic views of the glaciers of the Venediger in four days.

Spend the night in cosy huts and climb one or two peaks on this alpine trekking.

1

Travel to Virgen on your own, meet and ascend to Zupalsee Hut

Travel to Virgen on your own and meet. A taxi ride will shorten the first day for us and take us to the Wetterkreuz Hut (2106 m). We’ll start hiking via the summit of the Griften (2720 m) to Zupalsee Hut (2346 m), idyllically situated at the lake Zupal. Along the way, we’ll enjoy the first legendary panoramas of the Großglockner all the way to the Dolomites – absolutely stunning!

Hike via Donnerstein to Lasörling Hut

The first part of the day is a beautiful hike along the ridge leading from the Griften via the Donnerstein (2725 m) to the Speikboden (2653 m). Narrow paths – surefootedness required - take us to the Steinkaas, a wide high valley with a number of picturesque lakes which we reach around noon. Via another small pass (2499 m), we‘ll hike down to the rustic Lasörling hut in a wide arc.

The heart of the Lasörling High Trail

The centrepiece of the Lasörling high trail is today’s trekking stage. This long stage will first take us to the Prägrater Törl (pass, 2870 m) and then on to the Niedere Höhe („low height“, 2919 m). The panoramic view from the beautifully shaped Rötspitze („red peak“) extends over the entire Hohe Tauern all to the Dolomites and will quickly take our minds off the ascent through the gravel.
We’ll return to the Prägrater Törl, negotiate a scree-filled plain, a coombe full of moraine rubble and a few small passes and will soon reach the Kleinbachboden („small stream flats“). We’ll have a well-earned rest besides gurgling streams. The trail continues via Rote Lenke (2794 m) and a pass down to the Neue Reichenberger Hütte (New Reichenberger Hut), visible from afar and beautifully situated on Lake Bödensee. We’ll spend our last night there.

4

Descend via Umbal Falls to Stöden

We’ll leave the cosy hut and descend to Bödensee. High above the valley floor, we’ll be trekking on grassy slopes into the Daber valley. Breathtaking views into the valley accompany us on our descent to Ströden.
We’ll make a small detour and hike to the Umbal Falls and walk the “water trail” until we reach the end of the tour in Ströden on a gravel road.
We’ll return to Virgen by bus or taxi.
